The Notre-Dame-des-Victoires Church is located in the heart of Place-Royale. It was built in 1688, exactly where Samuel de Champlain built its “Abitation”. On the ground, you can see a stone circle made with a different colour and circling the church that defines where that “Abitation” one stood.
The church changed its name twice, in 1690, after Phipps' ship sank and also in 1711, after the sinking of Walker's ship. Unfortunately, during the famous Plains of Abraham battle in 1759, the church was destroyed by the cannon balls, but it was restored in its original architecture.
Since 1929, the church is listed on the historical register and its organ has also been restored. Inside, you can admire a replica of the “Brézé”, the ship that transported the Marquis de Tracy. Each year, a number of people get married here or baptise their children.
