Château-Richer

Château-Richer

This municipality is bordered to the west by the Petit-Pré River and to the east by the Rivière aux Chiens. The Sault-à-la-puce River offers a sight composed of waterfalls, canyons, pools, and basins, enhanced with an abundant flora.

The origins of the name Château-Richer seems to have been lost in ancestral legends. However, historians think that this designation was used at the beginning of the French colonization. Château-Richer was nonetheless one of the first organized parishes after Québec and Montréal. There are more than 200 ancestral houses, some being more than 300 years old. These offer clues as to the lifestyle of the first French colonists who settled in Québec.

Among the main attractions in Château-Richer, there is the Érablière Sucre d’Art, a family sugar shack where you will discover all the stages of maple products transformation and taste maple taffy on snow during the cold season. You should also stop at the boulangerie chez Marie, located in a stone house built in 1652, and where you will find a 150-year-old bread oven. You can sample fresh bread, various spreads as well as maple products.
