The Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood, located between the Saint-Sacrement and Langelier boulevards in the lower part of town, is undergoing a great revitalization. In fact, the entire part of the Charest Boulevard that crosses the neighbourhood has been entirely renovated lately. On the other side of Saint-Sauveur, the Saint-Charles River has also been revitalized and presents beautiful flowers and plants that will please hikers and cyclists, who can now walk and bike along the beautiful paths.
In the Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood, you can also visit the church bearing the same name. Built in 1850, it was unfortunately destroyed by the fire that devastated the village in 1866. It was entirely rebuilt two years later. To the east, the Musée de l’hôpital general de Québec will tell you the story of this hospital built in 1692 as well as that of the Augustine religious community. You can admire the numerous artefacts and works of art dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
During your visit of the neighbourhood, you must stop at the Taverne Jos Dion. Opened since 1933 and allowed to women since 1986, this tavern is a genuine institution in Québec City. Come taste the eggs in vinegar or come feel the festive atmosphere of the place.
