Originally an agricultural territory, Charlesbourg was chosen as a resort destination by the inhabitants of Quebec City during the first half of the 20th century. It began to urbanize during the second half of that century and became a Quebec City outskirt. The municipalities of Charlesbourg-East, Notre-Dame-des-Laurentides, Orsainville and the city of Charlesbourg merged into what is known today as Charlesbourg. It boasts very nice places, such as the parc des Moulins, moulin des Jésuites and Trait-Carré.
