Charlesbourg is now a district of the large merged city of Québec. Its boundaries correspond exactly with the ones of the ancient city of Charlesbourg. The Trait-Carré is a perfect example of this historic wealth. It is a particular ancien way of distributing the land that divides the strips of land in a star shape to make them meet in a central point. This land distribution technique encouraged people to gather in the Trait-Carré to organise a defence in the case of an attack. You can take the pedestrian walkway that surrounds the Trait-Carré and admire this special disposition as well as the architecture from the 17^th and 19^th centuries. It is also possible to walk along this circuit with a guide, starting at the Moulin des Jésuites. This seigniorial mill was built in 1740 and now houses a historical interpretation centre and a tourist information office.

South-east from the Trait-Carré, you will see the Maison Ephraïm-Bédard, a typical example of a middle-class farmer’s house of the time. In the same area, you will find the Saint-Charles-Borromée Church and the Magella-Paradis and Pierre-Lefebvre houses, which are also worth visiting.
