Beauport is also one of the districts of Québec City, and corresponds exactly to the territory of the ancient city of Beauport. With its geographical location, its diversified economy and its important commercial activity, it is a significant economic hub for the region. Its excellent road network allows you to quickly reach downtown Québec City, the Old-Port and the airport. There are also numerous financial institutions as well as the Promenades Beauport shopping centre.
This district also houses more than 500 ancient buildings from different times and of different styles. If you walk along the Route de la Nouvelle-France, which will also make you cross all the municipalities of the Côte-de-Beaupré area, you will pass by the parc des Martyrs and the parc de la rivière Beauport where interpretation panels will tell you the history of its flour, nail and linseed oil mills as well as its distillery-brewery.
A little farther to the north, you will find the Rivière Beauport interpretation centre and the parc des Cascades, where trails and a cycle path are accessible. On Avenue Royale, the bourg du Fargy is an important part of the district, in which you will find the church, the presbytery, the convent and the Maison Girardin. Listed on the historical register in 1977, this house now presents a permanent exhibition about the heritage and the founder families of Beauport.
Continue on the same road, you will be charmed by the uneven layout of the houses and by their traditional architecture. In the east, you will see the Maison Tessier-Dit-Laplante, also listed on the historical register.
Go to the parc de la Chute-Montmorency, on the border of the city of Beauport. You will be enchanted by this spectacular 83-meter-high waterfall (30 meters higher than the Niagara Falls). You can cross the waterfall using the suspension bridge above it, climb the panoramic staircase or admire it from the cable car. Three kilometres of welaking paths cross the park and underbrush, and a small park for children is also accessible in the eastern part of the park. Visit the Manoir Montmorency, located at the top of the waterfall. Inside, you can visit the interpretation centre, gift shops, magnificent reception rooms and a simply delicious cuisine.
In summer, several activities and events take place in the park, like the Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition, an internationally renowned fireworks competition. The Belles autos d’hier exhibition, which presents antique cars, also attracts draws many people in the park, just like the Théâtre La Dame Blanche , which presents a new play each summer.
In winter, a cone-shaped ice hill forms at the bottom of the falls. Inhabitants righfully call it the “Pain de Sucre” (Sugarloaf) and come slide down it with their sleighs or tubes. It is also possible to climb the iced rock faces of the cliff right next to the falls during the cold season. The Roc Gym Company organizes different excursions that will certainly enchant climbers, amateurs and experts.
The city of Beauport still conceals many other treasures like the beautiful Baie de Beauport along which you can take a walk, swim or go windsurfing. You can even go sea kayaking or go on a catamaran expedition.
